BIG, BLACK & DANGEROUS

This poem was written in the shadow of the many racialised police attacks that have come to the fore in the recent years (such as the Michael Brown murder) and was fueled by my own experiences. Those moments where my skin colour has defined my apparent level of innocence - or lack thereof.

Apologies To You

Anxiety is a bitch.

After a long night spent stressing over old mistakes, and the various things I hated about myself, I awoke in a heap of panic. Drenched in sweat. My mind - working overtime to remind me of every last imperfection - sprung to life, ready with a full & complete confession.

This is my plea of forgiveness, for not being perfect.

More Than A Mural

Art has a way of evoking deep emotions within us. This is all the more magnified when the art comes from a place of real pain. Though we may not be able to end the atrocities, being aware of them is the 1st step.

A Story Untold

How does a person become successful? A question we all ask - and one few will have an answer to. Like many, this question has plagued my mind and this poem encapsulates my thoughts on it all.

Freedom & Slaves

In a society where we constantly drive for the best products at the cheapest cost, it becomes easy to overlook the actual price of our products. The cost paid - not by us - but by those forced to make the things we crave.

"I Will Die On These Streets"

A short poem, written amidst growing frustration with the supposed hopelessness of the homeless crisis.

The title is a direct quote from someone who was and is - I'm assuming - still homeless. The person had given up and accepted that these streets they called home would also be their graveyard.

What's The Alternative?

Making the decision to chase a dream is never easy. And with the extra hurdles of anxiety & depression to overcome, it often leaves you feeling exposed. But even on the worst of days, if you're doing something you truly love - would you have it any other way?

Meeting James

A single encounter with the right person can change your entire perspective. On this day, I just happened to be in the right place and time to make that happen.

Meeting James taught me 2 things:

- The homeless are typically the most vulnerable of all in our society

- The homeless are neither monsters nor saints, they're merely human

Are We Equal Or Are We More Than?

Inequalities exist throughout our society. STEM fields are no exception to this. So here's my nerdy poem on the subject.
