A STORY UNTOLD
I’ve spent my lifetime haunted by my legacy,
This empty fear that the story I leave behind isn’t the best of me.
That it will fade,
It will catch dust,
And the saga of my life will never be reopened.
That when I die,
I will die - with me.
I want to be immortal.
To live beyond this earthly frame.
To transcend my being,
And walk amongst the greats.
Yet the path of a titan is far from easy,
It is as elusive as a solitary breath in a hurricane.
A road so unknown to us mere mortals.
We search,
We scurry,
We chase.
In a frantic hope that a road map must exist.
We beg for answers from all directions.
A shortcut,
A road sign,
A voice that knows we’re not lost.
A voice that knows who we are.
A voice that knows what we are.
A voice that knows why we are.
Yet silence is all that haunts this world.
An eerie unknowing that pervades my thoughts,
That stills my breath,
That shakes my courage,
And batters my will.
This absurd existence is the curse of the living.
A life so longing for purpose,
A heart so yearning for meaning,
And an existence.
As uncaring as it is vast,
It begs us to ask why,
And taunts us for doing so.
So no questions shall be asked today.
Today is for living.
Blind, battered & bruised,
I will continue on my journey.
Always lost,
But forever in the knowledge that I am where I have chosen to be.
For purposes are not found – they are created.
And as my reach forever eludes my grasp,
I will continue onwards.
Choosing my destiny.
Creating my dreams.
Never catching perfection,
But always surpassing better.
